Roger Dubuis, Co-Founder Of The Eponymous Brand, Has Passed Away At The Age Of 80
Manufacture Roger Dubuis has just announced, via Instagram, that company co-founder Roger Dubuis has passed away at the age of 80.
The company said, in its statement: "Roger Dubuis, our company founder, has passed away today at the age of 80. His renowned expertise in Haute Horlogerie, his disruptive vision, his human values will remain close to our heart. We are all committed to keep his unique spirit within our brand. Roger’s passing is a grievous loss for all of us and the entire watch community. Our sympathies are with his family and close relatives."
The firm that bears his name was founded by Mr. Dubuis, and entrepreneur and designer Carlos Dias, in 1995, and introduced its first two collections in 1996: Sympathie and Hommage. Distinguished by idiosyncratic design, fine movement finishing, and an emphasis on complications as an art form, the company drew strongly on Roger Dubuis' extensive background in and experience with restoration of historically important vintage timepieces.

In 2004, Roger Dubuis announced his retirement from his company, and in 2008, the company became part of the Richemont Group. In 2011, Roger Dubuis came out of retirement and once again assumed an active role at the manufacture. A recent and well-received project of his was the announcement of the Hommage Millésime project, which involves the rehabilitation and casing of high end complicated vintage pocket watch movements, in 2015.

The company, which recently announced its new partnership with Lamborghini, continues under the leadership of CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué. HODINKEE extends its condolences to the friends, family, and associates of Mr. Dubuis, who leaves behind a unique and memorable legacy.
